Hi everyone I’m sure I am not the only one having problems using stotz.
I have decided to start using them and today I tried to make a pole rig using stotz.
What a bloody nightmare my eyes are not so good now I’ve reached 73 years young and No matter how I tried I just could not get them on the line. I couldn’t even see the slit on the little buggers to get the line on.

PLEASE HELP before I have a coronary.

How do you apply to the line? There must be an easy way to do it.

Any tips please?

The only alternative way is to use a stoz applicator. It’s a little device you put your line through with the stotz in and your line and then press but in my opinion you might be best buying pre made rigs already made by someone.

What you could do is just give them the floats you want to use with winders and they will do the rest.

There might be a small cost involved but it’s going to save you messing about making your own rigs with shot you can’t see properly as there’s no other way. Unless you use bigger floats so you can use number 4 or number 6 shot.

Hi Andy I think I have already arrived at the same solution by buying them in after it took me over an hour to make one rig.
It’s obviously going to be a lot easier but thanks for replying

If you get in tangles and end up with floats sitting about you might be best off getting them re-tied rather than buying new and having lots of floats sitting about.

It's what I would do in same situation.

That’s why I tried to tie my own cos I have a few pole floats kicking around which for one reason or another are no longer part of a rig

Stotz are not easy to put on they can be fiddly things. Maybe get rid of the smaller pole floats and go to a .5 or a .6 gram float where you only need number 4s or number 6 shots rather than the smaller stuff.

I have just ordered a couple of .5,.6 & .7 ready made of course

Iv the same problem, iv just ordered a stotz applicator from amazon lol .this getting old is nog good .

Definitely not Terry, it took me an hour plus to make 1 pole rig yesterday so I’ve already given the idea up about building my own and will just buy ready made from now on. Problem I now have is what do I do with the stotz I have bought lol

Step up your floats to the next sizes up so you can apply size 4 / 6 shot.

What sizes / quantity did you buy? Most pole anglers can make up rigs but it might start to get expensive for you if you keep snagging / getting smashed off e.t.c

I meant what stotz did you buy? 😛

You might run into the same issue with tying hooks unless you use a hook tier. I could never get away with them though always used spade end and tied them by hand.

Only thing about pre-made rigs that you need to watch for is hook size and lb line. They need to match elastic in pole + make sure you heavy enough to copy with the species in the lake you attend otherwise you going to get snapped off.

You want one of these Andy, they are brilliant for both spade end and eyed hooks. In fact I’ve got a spare so you can have it once I’m strong enough to get to lake. Really easy to use

These hook tyres are so easy my 10 year old grandson makes some for me to earn pocket money lol

Thanks for the offer - I hand tie everything and don't run into many problems. I used to tie size 26 hooks by hand. Don't go that small now because there's nothing that small that requires it. 🤣

I sit on a 16 / 18 most of the time now due to the carp cruising around.

You could try Terry's Stot applicator to see if it works for you. If it works better then you could get one.

Ok I tend to use 12,14,& 16 can’t see much smaller than them

These are good as well, disgorger at one end and spade hook tyer at the other end along with a hook tyer

Nothing wrong with this. 12's / 14's / 16's are perfectly fine for pellet / sweetcorn / meat e.t.c.

Them accessories look weird to what I'm use too. Traditional disgorger, preston stotz shot and manually by hand tying. 🙂
