Assuming this is for Stephensons. If you get snapped off then you may need to go to the next sizes up.

Mainline: 6-8lb B/strain
Hook Length: 4-5lb B/strain
Hook Size: 16 Barbless

Yes it is for Stephensons and many thanks for the info

The carp in there will snap you clean off if you using anything less than the above, especially in summer.

Would it be safer to go 10lb main with 6lb hook length on size 16 barbless
Cheers

If you not specifically targeting double figures then that may be slightly more than required on the waggler.

I think for mainline 6-8 would be fine.

Ok thats the plan then many thanks for the advice 🙂

I use 6lb Matrix on waggler and I haven't lost anything as of yet on it.

I tend to use 8lb mainline and 5lb hook length you can have good fights on that and land most fish. Those line strains give you that little bit more insurance.
But I have even gone up to 12lb mainline

Cheers, i have a 16 m pole and gear but i am unsure if there will be space to use it.i am just getting back into the sport in my retirement and fancy waggler as this i did years ago and enjoyed many thanks

Hi , I don't think you need to be more than 13mtrs on pole ,it will cover most areas, most fish including carp to 6-7lb Can be taken anywhere from top kits and one upto13. Other than that feeder to islands of waggler.

Many thanks for that , yeh my pole is 16m but as you suggest i dont have to use every section its been years since ive used it I'll have to do you tube research to see how to use it again ..i really fancy just waggler or feeder fishing for a change 😀

Feeder to islands or midway ,you'll catch carp or bream ,personally I fish the lilly pads on my pole for a bit of pellet fishing lol best iv had out is 12lb on pole .

Wow all i did was fish commercial lakes, so it was a little false with the amount of fish in the lakes , 12lb from a club lake . I was not able to join a club while i was working as we did 12 hr shifts but most shifts turned into 14/15 hr shifts when an emergency call came in just on finishing time .
Thank you for the advice

There’s space to use a 16m pole but no need to go past 13mtrs like what Terry said. You will get away with 8mtrs on most pegs.

A lot of the anglers like to change from pole > waggler > method / feeder depends what peg they are on usually.

That is exactly what i want to do not restrict myself to one style/method but try all sorts.
Years ago i found waggler fishing so relaxing so I'm looking forward to fishing that way again as well as pole and feeder having looked at the club rules i can only have one rod in the swim at any one time so it will be a good way of doing things I'm looking forward to (hopefully) get membership and then full steam ahead

Put quick change swivel on main line then you can change from float to method feeder cage feeder or swim feeder without having to strip everytng down

Give the man a blue Peter badge lol.
